The Beast

“The Beast” is the nickname for the president’s custom-built Cadillac limousine. This car weighs around 15,000 to 20,000 pounds (6,800 to 9,071 kg) and costs an estimated $1.5 million. The Secret Service is believed to keep about 12 copies of the vehicle. The Beast is outfitted with many offensive and defensive measures:

✓ Each of the doors is 8 inches (20 cm) thick and completely seals the cabin to prevent chemical or biological attacks.

✓ The windows are made of 5-inch- (13 cm) thick bulletproof glass.

✓ It has bulletproof tires, and the body has armor plating and is both bulletproof and bombproof.

✓ The fuel tank is armor-plated and covered in special foam to keep it from being damaged in a collision or by bullets.

✓ Its bodywork is made from a variety of strong materials, including steel, aluminum, titanium, and ceramics.

✓ It is equipped with night vision cameras, GPS tracking, and a satellite communication system to allow it to drive in any conditions and so that the president can always be contacted.

✓ It has a supply of oxygen and emergency medical equipment, including bottles of blood that are the president’s blood type, in case the ambulance that travels in the motorcade is cut off.
